Assam: Teacher Arrested For Molesting Class 9 Student In Hailakandi

GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident in Assam's Karimganj district, a school teacher allegedly molested a young girl studying in class 9 of the same school.

On Thursday 28 April, the accused teacher has been arrested from Hailakandi after a complaint filed by the victim's father at Hailakandi police station.

The incident has been reported from the Kalibari Higher Secondary School located in the Karimganj district of Assam informed police on Friday 29 April.

The teacher has been identified as Ananda Swarup, a science teacher residing in the Sonbeel Kalibari area that comes under the Ratabari constituency.

According to reports, Swarup has been staying in a rented house in the college road area of the Hailakandi town where he provides private tuition to the students.

Earlier the victim girl complained that her science teacher called her personally and allegedly attempted to molest her.

After the matter came to light, the teacher was beaten up by locals of the area who reached his residence to punish him for committing such a heinous crime.

The local residents later handed him over to the police officers after informing them about the incident.

The father of the young girl lodged an FIR against the accused teacher at the Hailakandi Police Station. Based on the complaint police arrested Ananda Swarup from his rented house on Thursday evening.

Ampee Daolagupu, OC of the Hailakandi Police Station informed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) Act.

It may be mentioned such incidents of molestation and sexual harassment have been repeatedly taking place in different education institutions located in various parts of the state.
